PRESENTATION TO LIVERPOOL VETERANS PROJECT

20th March 2013

As all West Lancashire Mark Masons know, there is a social event that takes place each year and has done so for the last twenty years or so, which is of course “The Mark Weekend”. This event is now organised by W Bro's. Colin Svenson and Tom McLaughlin and is aimed at providing a FUN weekend away for mark masons and their wives/partners and friends.

For the last four years the weekend has been spent at the Chatsworth House Hotel in Llandudno which has proved to be a very successful venue. Of course charity being close to every freemason’s heart, the mark weekend is also very successful in raising money for the West Lancs Mark Charity Fund each year, this year being no exception and following another successful jaunt to the Welsh seaside resort in mid February this year, the magnificent sum of £1,248 was deposited within the coffers of the Charity Fund.

The money raised from the Mark Weekend is ring fenced to purchase equipment for a local charity and this year the organisers have chosen “The Liverpool Veterans Project” as the beneficiary.

The Liverpool Veterans Project which was developed by “Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council” has just acquired new offices at 239 Breck Road, Everton, Liverpool and aims to provide a one stop shop facility to provide support to ex servicemen and women and for those leaving the services and residing in the Liverpool area.
The services provided include: Employment and Job Search Support, Access to Gym and Fitness sessions, Confidential Referrals to mental health support programme's, CV Support and Work Clubs, Access to benefit and housing support, Drop in Sessions, Social Events etc.

In this respect the project has contacts with many other charitable organisations that will attend the offices and provide the specialist help and knowledge needed to fulfil the aims of the Project. It is anticipated that the new offices will be open on a seven day week basis during normal work hours although it is appreciated the hours on Saturday and Sunday could be limited to mornings or afternoons.

A cheque to value of £1,080 was donated to the project at the opening ceremony of the new offices and was used to purchase a computer and wireless A3 laser printer which will provide a valuable asset to the management of data and personnel using the facility in the future. The cheque was gratefully received by Frank Prendergast who is Co Founder of the Liverpool Veterans Project and was a former Lord Mayor of Liverpool who thanked West Lancashire Mark Masons for their valued support.
